It has been developed specifically for SW spinning (inshore): the reel has strong HAGANE gearing and X-SHIP, a HAGANE aluminium body, Cross Carbon drag washers and COREPROTECT technology. This makes the reel extremely strong and reliable. The Spheros SW is the first dedicated SW reel which is available in smaller sizes for a very affordable price. HAGANE is a Shimano reel design concept created to withstand continual use and extreme abuse. HAGANE is an innovation with built-in toughness and durability that works alongside Shimano's precision engineering. HAGANE is for all anglers. The HAGANE Drive Gear is produced by Shimano’s coldforging technology, without the need for additional machining. This delivers a longlasting smoothness, strength, lightness and power at the very heart of the reel. Traditional diecast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads. X SHIP provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This increased support allows the gears to stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. X-Ship technology also eliminates the friction between the spool shaft and gear to further benefit anglers with enhanced casting performance and casting distance of lighter lures. The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body rigidity and impact resistance virtually eliminate body flexing on the reel while fighting a fish. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. The water-repellent treatment provides water-resistance even in the presence of minute gaps due to the water bead formation effect. The water resist effect can be improved without increasing rotational resistance. Furthermore, since there is no contact, there is no abrasion and the waterproofing effect lasts longer. The spool has a special spool ring shape. This creates a rectifying effect on the line and realizes both suppression of line trouble and long casting performance. The CROSS CARBON DRAG provides the smooth drag release and the durability. S A-RB bearings are put through the same process as Shimano’s A-RB bearings but feature shields on both sides of the bearings. These shields reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting the rotation of the bearing.
